Install Trellix (FireEye) on Windows

The software previously known as FireEye is now known as Trellix.

Trellix is an Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) system that replaced the usage of traditional anti-virus software on campus. It was required on all University computers by June 30th, 2021. Trellix/FireEye is only for University-owned computers. It runs on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Trellix software installers can be found on Terpware.

NOTE: Other third-party antivirus programs must be uninstalled before installing Trellix/FireEye.

  1. Download the Trellix_Win.zip file.
  2. Right click the .zip file and click Extract All to extract the files contained in the .zip folder to a new folder location. There will be two files: A configuration file for the installer and a Windows Installer.
    NOTE:
if you just double click the .zip file, Windows 10 may preview the zip file installer as if it is a folder. If so, then you will get the error stating Configuration file is missing. If this happens, unzip the contents to folder then run the installer.
  3. Run the Windows installer file that was unzipped.
  4. Click Next to continue the installation.
  5. Accept the prompt for the license agreement.
  6. Accept the default installation location.
  7. Click Install to continue with the installation.
    • You may be prompted for administrator credentials or confirmation that you would like to proceed.
    • Accept this prompt or enter the credentials requested. If you aren't an administrator on your computer, contact your IT support for assistance.
  8. The installer will complete. Click finish at the end to close the installer.
  9. You may delete the installer and configuration file when this is completed. The program will update itself as needed.

If Trellix is performing a scheduled scan on your computer,  will show in the task bar. The system tray icon may still show the The red Fireye icon icon.
