Connect a Document Camera to a Zoom Meeting

Table of contents

Faculty teaching in university classrooms are encouraged to use the document camera in lieu of whiteboards in order to make the content they are sharing more accessible to students. This is particularly true in circumstances where students are participating in a course in-person and remotely via Zoom (or WebEx).

Sharing the contents of a traditional whiteboard by focusing an in-room camera on the board is visually challenging, particularly for remote students.  Methods for connecting to the document camera vary depending upon the capability of the classroom or an instructor’s desire to use a personal laptop.

Below are several options for connecting to the document camera.

Use the shared video button on the room touch panel

  1. Launch a Zoom meeting on the Room PC.
  2. Send the Document Camera to the Shared Video.
    • On the touch panel, select the Change Video Source option.
    • Select the Doc Camera or Doc Cam 1 button, then touch the Shared Video button.
    • The participants in your Zoom meeting should now see the stream from the Document Camera.
  3. Enable audio from the Room PC.
    • The room audio is always connected to the last source that has been selected.
    • Touch the Change Video Source button, then select the PC or Room PC button.
    • Touch the Projector button. This will enable the audio from the Room PC.
  4. Reverse the video from the document camera.
    • If the video from the document camera is reversed and the text is not legible, you will need to adjust the settings in Zoom.
    • Click on the ^ caret on the Video button in the Zoom task bar and click Video Settings.
    • Uncheck the Mirror my video box, then close the Video Settings window.
